2024 F1 Academy Preview

2023 Recap

The 2024 F1 Academy championship returns for a second season following an intense seven round season that saw Spaniard Marta Garcia storm to the title by 56 points ahead of Swiss’ Lena Buhler. Garcia won seven out of the 21 races and accumulated a total of 12 podiums. Following her success, as part of the F1 Academy process, Garcia now spends 2024 with a fully-funded PREMA Racing seat for the Formula Regional European Championship that commences in May. Buhler also joins her rival this year racing for ART Grand Prix. Both drivers will reunite with the teams they drove for in F1 Academy.

Why 2024 is special?

2024 is expected to be the next step in promoting female drivers in motorsport. Not only will the season run alongside the Formula 1 races, but 10 out of 15 drivers will be backed by Formula 1 teams and will run matching liveries for their respective teams.

It has also been confirmed that the top five drivers in the championship will receive super licence points to allow them to progress their career. The super licence points will run as:

  • P1 – 10 points
  • P2 – 7 points
  • P3 – 5 points
  • P4 – 3 points
  • P5 – 1 points

The final change to the 2024 season is the introduction of wild cards. Wild cards is when a driver from each race-country will be given the opportunity to race for the entire weekend. With the opening race being in Saudi Arabia, the first wild card entry will be Reema Juffali – the first Saudi woman to hold a motorsport licence. Juffali has so far had an impressive Endurance career, recently competing in the International GT open where she finished second in the 2022 PRO-AT class. She was prior experience racing in single-seater championship racing in the 2020 Formula 4 British and UAE championships and the 2021 GB3 championship.
